Emergency & Critical Care for Pets

Veterinary care is not always a planned or scheduled thing, when an emergency rises we are here.

At Cooper City Animal Clinic, we understand that veterinary care is not always a planned or scheduled thing. Sometimes your pet needs urgent attention, and we’re here to help. If your pet needs emergency or critical care at this moment, please call us immediately so we can help assess the situation and help you from there.

For those who are reading this just to plan ahead, you’re doing great by staying one-step ahead. You never want accidents to happen, but unfortunately, sometimes they do. Because of that, it’s always a good idea to have a plan in place. It may be difficult to research or come up with a plan in the moment when an accident happens or something unfortunate emerges. We recommend keeping our number or address saved in your phone and ready to go just in case. Don’t hesitate to discuss this with our staff or with our veterinarians during routine or other non-critical appointments. We’re always happy to help you plan ahead!

I don’t know if my pet needs urgent, critical care. When do I know my pet needs an emergency appointment?

It’s not always easy to know when your pet needs critical care, but we like to recommend erring on the side of caution. If your pet has suffered severe trauma, whether by an accident or falling, or if they’ve choked or swallowed something you think may be poisonous or life-threatening, give us a call immediately.

Here are some common signs to look out for:

  • Pale gums
  • Change in breathing (shortness or breath; raping breathing)
  • Change in body temperature
  • Difficulty standing
  • Change in heart rate (weak or rapid pulse)
  • Paralysis (apparent or otherwise)
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Seizures
  • Excessive bleeding

Remember that a pet in pain is a pet that’s more likely to bite! Exercise caution when approaching your pet if they are in great pain or discomfort. Transporting them safely and calmly is an important factor in emergency care.

If you’re looking for more information regarding emergency appointments or critical for your pet, please do not hesitate to contact us. Our helpful staff is eager to answer any and all questions you may have.
